Tuesday 10 February 2009: We had a wonderful time this evening in Wigan's Worsley Hall estate with a fantastic bunch of young people of all ages. Thanks go out to PC Paul Hale and the Pemberton Neighbourhood Policing Team for inviting us and the support of local youth workers in making the project happen. I spent an hour or so with a bunch of lads MCing on the buses sound system. There was so much talent, brilliant music making. Both the Rock Bus and I got a mention in the lyrics, although I'm still not sure why I was compared to Tony Blair -- it did make me laugh though, in fact I'm still laughing about it hours later. Hopefully I passed the first test in my rapper sound mixing course; I'll try and get two microphones for our next visit so we can get a proper show going. Later in the night I handed over the desk to a couple of younger sound engineers, they got into it very quickly and did a much better job than me getting the right sound. It was only after a lad with a scary blue face walked past me a couple of times I realised that there was face painting going on down stairs, turns out he was a robot. The games machines and computers were busy and there was a gang of enthusiastic jewellery makers as well. The evening wrapped up with an opportunity for the kids to pray for each other and the bus, it is wonderful to hear kids express to God their concern for each other. Praise God for the opportunity to enjoy ourselves, for the wonderful creativity He has gifted on the young people of Worsley Hall. We pray that the kids will have opportunities to use their gifts to bring peace, joy and love in abundance to their lives, and those of their friends, family and neighbours. We'll be back to Worsley Hall on Friday. Simon |
